3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus.
A husband and wife team who traveled and worked with the Apostle Paul on his missionary journeys, Priscilla and Aquila are known to have been among the 70* appointed and commissioned by Christ Himself. They left Italy as a result of persecution under Claudius, between 49 and 52, and met the Apostle Paul in Corinth. It is in Ephesus that the Scriptures show how they instructed Apollos in the way of the Lord, “expounding unto him the way of God more perfectly.” The Apostle Paul was a frequent guest in their home, in one instance staying for three years. It was in this same house in Ephesus that they held church. They continued with this pastoral service in Rome, where they also had a church in their house. Even when persecution pushed the believers from the city, they resettled for ministry in Ephesus. Priscilla and Aquila—always mentioned together and in an unconventional order—carried a mandate that continued to be a partnership from the moment Jesus sent them out “two-by-two.”
