Self Image: How Christ Sees You - Part One

We live in a world that is constantly waging war against our self-image. Everywhere we look we are faced with advertising and broadcasting that is designed to make us feel inadequate. That’s what makes us feel the need to splurge, buy, sign up, join, and pursue this ideal image of happiness, fulfillment, and beauty.

But something on the inside of us knows that there’s more. We weren’t created in the image of what is of this earth; we were created in the image of God. Our self-image, our identity, isn’t found in a shopping mall, a gym, or through a motivational mindset. Our identity is hidden in Christ. The Word became flesh so that we could see God as He really is.

The journey of finding our own identity is one that begins and is fulfilled in seeking out Christ. The scripture clearly teaches that we are transformed by the renewing of our mind to the Truth of the Word of God.

The renewing of our mind is the primary task of the Spirit of the Lord. His enablement teaches us to understand the life of God that is within the Scriptures. Without this life, there is no light. Without this light, there is no revealing. Our lives can be changed in an instant by a revelation. A revelation is a revealing.

The transformation of our mind is a constant process of revealing. Revelation of the Scriptures, breathed upon by the Spirit, impassions our searching and propels us forward. Understanding the revelation of God is the purest form of truth. All of a sudden, we are caught up in this new life, and our old ways of living are exposed to us as detrimental to our new life. This cannot be done by the outward pressure of works. It has to be a precious cooperation with the Spirit’s leading and our own hunger for change.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Romans 8:27

Thank God for His perfect will. Thank God for His good will. Thank God for His acceptable will. His will is so completely opposite to the world’s image of God’s will is portrayed as. His will is complete and total freedom from all anxiety, striving and the world’s way of getting ahead.

13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: 14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. 15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. 16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:13-18

Moses had to put a veil over his face because it was shining with the glory of God. After talking with God on the mountain, he came down, and the children of Israel were afraid.

Moses wrote Genesis through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

A person with a veil on their heart is a person without a revelation.

Without Christ, our minds are blinded. When we turn to the Lord, the veil is taken away. You are born again. That means you can see the writings of Moses for what they are.

The Word became flesh so that we could see God as He really is.

18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:18

People who know Jesus are transformed into His image. You cannot understand the Word of God unless you look at it in faith. (Galatians 3:5-6)

If you’re not open to the Word, it’s very difficult to change into the same image.

Faith Confessions

Make these your daily faith confessions. Say these faith confessions out loud with the accompanying Scriptures:

CONFESSION: My heart’s expression is faith released.

13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

2 Corinthians 4:13

CONFESSION: My self-image is changed through heart-thought.

7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he...

Proverbs 23:7

CONFESSION: My actions reflect my convictions.

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 1:12-13

CONFESSION: I’m changed by the revealed Word of God.

130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Psalms 119:130

CONFESSION: My freedom is unlimited obedience.

34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

John 4:34

CONFESSION: My spiritual realizations energize my dispositions.

29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

Colossians 1:29

CONFESSION: My eyes are always focused on His Kingdom.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 6:33

CONFESSION: My world is made by promises.

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Hebrews 11:3
